We meet in the parking lot of Robious Landing Park (3800 James River Road, Midlothian, VA 23113). From Robious Road (Rt 711), turn onto James River Road (traffic light) & continue past James River High School. The park entrance will be straight ahead. Look for the East Coast Board Sports trailer.
The area of the James River that we paddle on is flat, and the water is (for the most part) calm. A Coast Guard approved floatation device (provided for you) will be worn at all times. With any sport, there is always some risk involved, but we take every measure to provide a safe environment for you to paddle.
Many first-time paddlers find they never even get wet. With proper instruction, you can enjoy almost instant success. With that being said, you should still wear a bathing suit just in case (or if you just want to jump in & cool off).
A wetsuit is not required. During June, July & August, the water is warm enough that you won’t need a wetsuit. If you would feel more comfortable wearing one, you are more than welcome to do so. If you don’t own a wetsuit, but would like to wear one for your lesson, please let Sutton know (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Most lessons will have 6-8 people. If you’d like a more private lesson, one-on-one instruction or race coaching, please see private lessons below.
Yes, we do. We offer one-on-one instruction, semi-private group lessons with fewer than 4 people & race coaching for the competitive standup paddler. Please email or call Sutton for more information & pricing. email@example.com or 804-677-7733.
